Smoking Prevalence in Ireland

A number of recent media reports refer to smoking prevalence in Ireland as being 29% of the population. This is incorrect. The most recent survey by the National Tobacco Control Office shows smoking prevalence at 21.7% and this figure is now being accepted as the official figure by the Department of Health and Children.  Reference to data:  http://www.hse.ie/eng/about/Who/TobaccoControl/Research/
